The US lawmakers have reintroduced a bill seeking pinching restrictions on H1B Visa regime that may reduce opportunities for Indian techies in the US. Election of Donald Trump who vehemently opposed outsourcing has encouraged the law makers to bring the bill again into the Parliament’s consideration.
India was one of the biggest beneficiary of the US visa regime as several Indian tech companies were able to recruit talented persons to the US by using it.
The Bill makes a comeback after the initial rejection by the US Parliament earlier. Fresh changes are made in the bill proposing a minimum yearly income of $100000 for those who seeks the visa. Such a requirement is expected to bring down the recruitment of Indian technicians by the US based companies to a miniscule.
It also eliminates the Master’s degree exemption for exempting the applicant.
Recently, a number of companies including Disney, SoCal Edison etc., have come under criticism for misusing the H1B Visa regime.
“In order for America to lead again, we need to ensure we can retain the world’s best and brightest talent. At the same time, we also need to make sure programs are not abused to allow companies to outsource and hire cheap foreign labor from abroad to replace American workers,” Republican Congressman Darrell Issa who took an initiative for reintroduction has described about the Bill.
The objective of making high salary ceiling equal to that of US labourers is to ensure that outside labour are not sought for large number of vacancies except for the highly technical ones.
