China has denied any connection between the Chinese Army- the PLA, and the North East insurgents who made a gruesome attack on Indian security forces last week. The Global Times quoting Chinese officials reacted that any such argument about the connection between the two sides is “absurd”.
News paper reports in India earlier quoted the link between Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) – and the PLA.
The strong denial about the PLA’s role came in a Global times article on Wednesday morning. The article has quoted Indian Express report about Indian official claiming recordings of a phone call between a PLA official and an NSCN-K leader.
Zhao Gancheng, director of the Center for Asian-Pacific Studies at the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies told the Global times that “A connection between China and the Indian rebels is impossible, especially after India and China resumed diplomatic relationships in 1988.”He accused the Indian media’s rumormonger habit that produces the problem.
Another Chinese diplomat Li Li, Deputy Director of the Institute of South and Southeast Asian and Oceania Studies at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations has also refuted the accusation. “It is impossible for China to intervene in the domestic affairs of India, especially when the two countries’ relationship is developing very well after [Indian Prime Minister Narendra] Modi’s visit.”
Last week, 20 Army personnel were killed and another dozen injured in a militant attack in Manipur’s Chandel district.
Many militant groups in North East have cross border access- with Myanmar and Bangladesh.
The Indian government is also seeking cooperation of Myanmar due to the increasing hit and hide operations by militants from Myanmar’s forest areas.
