Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is the world’s most successful financial inclusion programme- the President Pranab Mukherjee has stated in the joint sitting of the Parliament.
Around Rs 32000 crore deposits has been procured through the programme. It has opened 21 crore accounts.
Elaborating the achievement of the scheme, the President hinted that future social security programmes may be launched using the PMJDY platform.
The PMJDY has gone beyond just opening of the bank account and is now becoming a platform for poverty eradication by offering basic financial services and security to the poor.
Last budget’s leading initiative for small businesses – MUDRA has disbursed Rs 1 lakh crore loans to more than 2.6 crore entrepreneurs.
The President also elaborated several social security measures and steps that have been taken to improve the health of the public sector banks. Indradhanush programme has earmarked Rs 70000 crore and it will give additional loan disbursement.
On black money, the President stated that the concerted efforts on bringing back black money stored abroad are yielding results.
